SILVER Medal winner in the 2016 Military Writers Society of America awards. In his #1 Fiction bestseller The Pieces of the Puzzle, Robert Stanek masterfully brought readers into a world of intrigue and espionage, a world where former intelligence analyst Scott Evers found himself in a desperate race against a mysterious machine that could control the world's financial markets, bringing ruin not unlike the great economic collapse that came into our reality a few years after the book was published.
In Cards in the Deck, the exciting follow-up to The Pieces of the Puzzle, Robert Stanek brings readers into darker corners of the same world, where the most powerful intelligence organizations on earth, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the United States Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean are about to go head to head with terrorists the likes of which the world has never seen.
In the heart of the Mediterranean, Scott Evers is drawn into a harrowing world centered around one of history's most elite military warrior forces the Navy SEALs. Facing a chilling, relentless adversary, Evers is pulled into a landscape of Navy strike groups, tactical response teams, and killers willing to do anything it takes to get the job done.
Drawing from his past experiences as an analyst and operative, Evers races to find answers and decide whom to trust... before the world becomes a place we no longer recognize.

That one I haven't read but that didn't seem to make it harder to read this one. This was an intense, drama filled story. A racing against time trying to make sense out of what was going on kind of story. Every time Scott would begin to get some information there was always more to know. Plenty of twists and turns. There were enough players on the field to make that difficult for the "good guys". Sometimes it was even hard to know who all the good guys were. There were plenty of people running their own agenda and Scott was being bounced back and forth about trusting a couple of them. I'm not sharing who or why because that would just spoil the fun. I really liked the main character, Scott Evers. He was tough, smart, loyal and you just wanted him to win. And come out of it all alive and maybe even happy with someone to love.
For me, the book was a bit heavy on some of the science and also the military/ships and some of their information. I guess some of those details is what I had some trouble with but I think its probably not a big deal for others. Actually even if I didn't understand some of it or got bogged down in a little bit of it, it looks like the author did do his job on that part. I pushed through and enjoyed so much of the rest of it, I found it well worth the read.

Good book. Lots of twists and turns and AHAH moments
I enjoyed the book very much! At first it was difficult to try and understand the different types of agencies and water craft used in the story, but the plot line soon had me hooked and I looked forward to finishing it! I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review!
A thrilling read with action threads and technological twists. The plot lines twist and spin, keeping the reader guessing while remaining wonderfully easy to read. Well written, like all his others. Looking forward to the next one!

I actually was impressed with the author. This is a book that I've recommended to several of my friends. There are several twist and turns presented in this book. This book made me do something that I normally don't do which was to look up the author, because while reading this novel I realized the author had to have had a military background. I was pleasantly surprised that I was correct he does have a military background. It has been a honor and a pleasure to read this novel written by this best-selling author. For readers who like action this novel is one I'm sure they would love as much as I have.

Well, I have a bit of a problem. I've found another book series that I'm going to want to continue to follow. This was a fun, nonstop action romp. The problem I encountered was that I was a bit confused in the beginning of the book with some of the time/location jumps, and sorting out the characters. That said, once I had things straight, it kept me interested, and I found it to be a quick read for me, as I found the pace fast for a book of this length. Recommended.
The Cards in the Deck by Robert Stanek is one non-stop adrenaline ride. At times the author is flirting with an overload of action, pace and weapons info. And when it comes to weapons Stanek has clearly done his research and knows what he is writing about. As you can expect from this type of novel there is bloodshed and death aplenty, but it does not get gory and the violence itself is at no stage gratuitous but balanced enough to keep the story moving along at a fast clip. Fortunately the fast pace of the action is not at the expense of the plot, which retains its credibility throughout and will keep you guessing where the author is taking you, with a clever twist at the end. All in all, a great read for action lovers.

The blaring alarm awoke Scott Evers in his bunk on the Sea Shepherd, a 201 foot ship with a crew of 45 operated by an organization similar to Greenpeace. Its mission was to disrupt illegal Tuna fishing in the Mediterranean Sea.
On his way to the topside Evers, who’s job is security, discovered Libyans had sank a sister ship, the Bardot III. When he reached the top deck he saw the ship was circling one of five Tunisian fishing boats and their crews were hurling links of chain at the Sea Shepherd, who’s crew was responding with fire hoses and stink bombs, a repeat of previous battles. Divers in the water, Edie said to Evers. The divers were cutting nets to free the tuna. Then thinks went south.
David Gilbert, a NASA senior data mining and analysis specialists at a super secret National Cybersecurity Initiative Data Center (DC), Camp Williams, Utah was a troubled man. Gilbert was early because he wanted to review the latest D-Wave test results from the latest generation of super computers employing quantum computing. Gilbert’ super computer was one of three with super-cooled niobium chips. After studying the results he realized something was amiss in the Med. Now Gilbert had two things to worry about What was not being reported in the Med, and his long time concern about super computers exceeding human intelligence and enslaving the human race.
The “director” enters the story and the Evers and his gal pal Edie have rollicking, fantastical adventures as they chase the bad guys across the Mediterranean to Malta with the help of the CIA, NSA, SEALs and the Sixth Fleet.
