IS ABOUT TO BEGIN ...

The first pulse pounding, action-packed thriller from best selling author RD Brady

The Belial Stone An Archaeological Thriller The Belial Series Book 1 edition by RD Brady Literature Fiction eBooks

The story rates a 5 in my opinion because R.D. Bailey is the first author I've seen to tackle modern day findings on Atlantis. Fiction based on her research into Edgar Cayce's research and readings was very innovative. However, there were some discrepancies that had nothing to do with research and was just plain sloppy editing, so I would give that aspect of the book a 3. Since I'm a professional editor, of course I'm going to notice missing prepositions and an occasional lack of an article. She said that she had the book copy edited a second time because of reader criticism, so I'm hoping that the ebook I bought had not been re-edited and that my gripes had been edited out. Except for the really graphic violence, I would put the book in the category of young adult or teen reader. If I had a 14-year-old, I wouldn't object to him or her reading it. Therefore, I have no criticism of the way the story line was handled. Some reviewers have criticized the fact that the heroine and hero fell in love in just a few days, but I find it feasible because of the possibility of soul mates. I found it to be a fun book to read, despite the violence, and I really want this series to be a rousing success. Yes, I would recommend this book, and I've just ordered a copy of the next one in the series.

The Belial Stone An Archaeological Thriller The Belial Series Book 1 edition by RD Brady Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I read some of the other reviews which were less than glowing or complimentary. Admittedly, we are all different and we all have different likes and dislikes. So, here's my opinion...if you want a read that is full of action, this book has it. If you want fiction that makes the story line possible, but maybe not probable, this book has that, too. Are the characters believable, yes. I truly did have a problem putting this down as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I even feigned work but was actually reading this book! That's just how compelling it was for me. I even turned to Google Earth to get a look at one of the cities mentioned and to try to figure out where the "compound" was. This is a work of fiction which put my brain to work and my imagination was on over-time! I even stopped to research some of the other "books" mentioned in this novel. (Specifically the Book of Enoch, which I happen to have.) While I'm not into the marshal arts, my son is and I have been to many of his tournaments, and this also played a great role in this story. So, if you want action, mystery, fiction, and a whole lot of imagery, you'll get it all in this book. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Well done R.S. Brady! I am a fan.
It was an ok read. It doesn't grab your attention. It doesn't make you sit on the edge of your seat. A lot of the things that happen are pretty predictable. The best part of the book is the opening chapter then it digresses into back story and character building. Even the character building is a bit shallow. The author continually had the main character grieve over the loss of a friend that only a half dozen paragraphs were devoted to. Re-addressing the grief that you can't really connect to isn't character building, its just boring.

The Author seems to make an attempt at foreshadowing one of the characters as being not what he seems, but its completely predictable. Even after you are quite certain of the reality of the character, the author returns to the question as though it is unanswered over and over. It got a little frustrating in parts because of that. Again it wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't really good either.

I will not be reading any of the other books in the series. I didn't enjoy this one enough.
Wow, what a great combination of archeology, religion, myth, mystery, intrigue and action. I won this in a Goodreads giveaway and it is a keeper!

I was really impressed with the way Ms. Brady wove all the threads of religion and myth together into an intense, non-stop story of a battle between good and evil. This story includes, fallen angels, a morally corrupt politician, weapons of mass destruction, a slave camp, a priest, a think tank, a few geniuses and of course a heroine and hero that can stand up to anything that gets thrown at them.

I am a fan of Atlantis stories, I suppose because there is so much lore and so little scientific evidence. While not specifically about Atlantis, the fabled city does play a part in this story and thankfully, it is still mysterious as ever!

If you think this sounds remotely interesting, start reading. You'll be hooked and missing sleep!
The Belial Stone had potential, but it failed to deliver the way it could have. The broad strokes of the plot could have made for a good story, but the author's self-confessed love for writing action sequences doomed the plot (along with decent character-building, it appears) to a back burner, making for a poor final product.

The most glaring problem that the author has is a complete and total lack of understanding of weapons, including their nomenclature, classifications, and uses. She appears to fall back on terms she may have heard once or twice in other places without any understanding of what those terms mean. In my mind, this wouldn't be a big mark against the work, except for the large part these weapons play in the story and the fact that she explicitly states that she likes writing action scenes the best. That's mind-blowing to me.

The characters are problematic from the outset. There is no sense of plausibility in their actions (not just in terms of real-world actions, but also in terms of their consistency within the story-world), and they are all completely static throughout the work. Oh, except for the swooning, head-over-heels love-at-first-sight garbage between Jake and Laney. Plot lines are also telegraphed the first or second time a character is mentioned (e.g. Henry's part to play in the endgame).

Overall, the book was readable, and if glaring factual errors or poorly-created characters don't bother you, then it could be a good choice for you. I'm just glad that I was able to read it for free and learn that I won't be continuing with the series.
